Verilog simulator claims 30% faster speed

SAN FRANCISCO—SynaptiCAD released the first 64-bit Linux version of VeriLogger Extreme, a Verilog simulation and debug environment.

According to SynaptiCAD (Blacksburg, Va.), the 64-bit simulator runs 30 percent faster than the 32-bit version and can simulate much larger designs. As in the case of the 32-bit version, SynaptiCAD is continuing to offer free six-month licenses for the 64-bit simulator, the company said.

Unlike the lower cost simulators typically provided with FPGA tools, SynaptiCAD's simulator is being distributed without any code that slows down the simulator when run on larger designs, making it run more than 10 times faster than the competition on larger simulation runs, the company said.

The VeriLogger Extreme simulators come with a graphical debugging environment called BugHunter Pro that will automatically launch VeriLogger Extreme in 32-bit or 64-bit depending on the type of operating system being run, SynaptiCAD said.. BugHunter supports all major HDL simulators and has the ability to launch the simulator, provide single step debugging, unit-level test bench generation, streaming of waveform data, project management and a hierarchy tree, the company said.

The 32- and 64-bit simulators are bundled together in a single package and can be downloaded from SynaptiCAD's website. A perpetual license sells for $4,000 on Windows, the company said. Leasing options are also available.
