San Jose, Calif. — Validity Sensors, Inc. has launched the VFS301 fingerprint sensor based on the company's LiveFlex Technology that delivers high durability and high impact resistance. Providing improved features for notebook PCs, the fingerprint sensor offers lower power, improved performance, a smaller form factor, and key customization options compared to its predecessor, the VFS201.

Customization options include thin and variable z-heights, the industry's first flush-mount capability, and a variety of color options. Mechanical options help make OEM integration easier, while features such as flush mount provide a better end user experience, Validity said. Custom color options allow OEMs to match the fingerprint sensor color with the industrial design and look of their devices.

In addition, the actual fingerprint sensing area is made of durable plastic, not silicon, and is completely decoupled from the silicon drive chip. The separation of the sensing area and the silicon chip also allows the VFS301 to maintain a large high-quality imaging area without compromising OEM customers' cost targets, said the company. The silicon chip can be smaller than the sensor area, offering cost savings, while the sensor area can remain larger and optimized for real-life finger sizes.

Pricing: Budgetary price for the complete solution is under $4.00 for VFS301.
