LONDON &151; FPGA vendor Xilinx Inc. (San Jose, Calif.) has revised its guidance upwards for the March quarter of its fiscal 2009 year. Sales in the first calendar quarter are now expected to be down between 13 and 18 percent sequentially.

The previous sales guidance was down 15 percent to 25 percent sequentially. The upward revision is due primarily to better than expected sales in the wireless communications sector, Xilinx said.

Xilinx is fabless vendor of field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), which find application in wireless basestations and in industrial and defense applications as well as in prototyping.
